Sedona, Arizona is my favorite city in Arizona, but Flagstaff is where I like to go to in the winter time. Sometimes you just need a change in scenery and temperature and I love that Flagstaff in the winter actually feels like winter. We recently took a trip to Flagstaff last November as a way of celebrating our 9 year wedding anniversary.
Flagstaff in the winter has a very cozy and small town feel, so I’ve created a simple and slow guide to spending a day in Flagstaff. Of course you could spend a longer time in Flagstaff exploring nearby sights (like the Grand Canyon, Sedona, or Sunset Crater Volcano) or going on hikes, but for a very laidback trip in the city, these are my recommendations.
Day Guide to Flagstaff, AZ
Wake up at High Country Motor Lodge.
High Country Motor Lodge was recently renovated with a mix of modern and contemporary details that don’t feel like a regular hotel. It’s beautiful and family friendly. They also have a few outdoor fire pits to enjoy and an onsite spa. The location is great and places you near downtown.
Eat breakfast at Floret Flagstaff
Floret is located in downtown Flagstaff and has a very cozy and inviting atmosphere. Their breakfast options are great and you can also find good coffee.
Go for a hike at Snowbowl
There are a few different trail heads at Snowbowl with access from the parking lots, but with two little ones, we decided to just play in the snow near the parking lot and enjoy the views.
Eat lunch at Proper Meats and Provisions
Proper Meats and Provisions is one of Flagstaff’s best eateries with a focus on sustainability and sourcing ingredients locally.
Explore downtown Flagstaff
The downtown area is small, making it easy to stroll around with little ones. I recommend stopping inside Bright Side Bookshop and grabbing coffee at Lux.
Head back to High Country Motor Lodge for some time to rest.
I love traveling, but I always need a bit of time to rest from exploring, especially with little ones who sometimes need to nap. It also gives me some time to process through all the things we’ve been experiencing.
Grab dinner and gelato at Pizzicletta
Pizzicletta is the best restaurant in Flagstaff serving up wood fired pizza with quality and organic ingredients. I recommend getting their special pizza as I always find the flavors to be creative and delicious. I also recommend their focaccia, specifically with burrata and figs (if they have them!).
